Our School Aim: 'Where learning is irresistible'
We were the first Infant school in Nottinghamshire to be awarded the prestigious international Green Flag award.
We are an Eco school, to help us achieve and maintain this status we take part in many fun activities, both in school and in the local environment. Caring for the environment is very much a part of our curriculum. Our aim is to reduce, reuse and recycle whatever and whenever we can. We have won the gold and silver awards from Arnold in bloom in the past years. Our children are exposed to growing plants and food whilst learning about why it is important to care for our surroundings.
Ava (Leopards) and Sam (Kittens) went to meet the Mayor of Gedling Borough Council to receive their prizes for winning and coming third in the design a Litter Hero competition!
See the album below for pictures of the full visit.
In May 2016 we were awarded the prestigious Green Flag for the 5th time! Our assessor was really impressed by our efforts towards making our school an Eco school.
"I would like to congratulate you for all the time and effort that has been invested in environmental education at your school. Your award is well deserved and reflects the hard work you have put into the programme so far. The school indoors and out, shows the outstanding commitment of everyone to creating a special place where there are abundant opportunities to investigate, appreciate and understand our environment through active learning. Opportunities for experiential learning both in classrooms and outdoors are exceptional, and clearly constantly evolving. Displays of topics and children's work are outstanding. The Headteacher, Eco Co-ordinator, Grounds and caretaking staff and all Teachers, Teaching Assistants and Governors clearly work as a team to achieve the very high standards they set themselves. Wonderful work, well done to everyone!"
The Key stage 1 and the Foundation Stage follow two different Eco codes which focus on reducing, reusing and recycling different things.
Meet our Eco Warriors
We are an Eco school.
To achieve and maintain this status the children have roles and responsibilities that reflect our environmentally friendly ethos.
At the beginning of the Autumn Term each class democratically elects representatives to be on the Eco Team, the School Council and Investors in Pupils.
All the children are involved in caring for our school environment.
Throughout the year our school grounds are used to support the children’s learning and it is also a place to relax and develop their personal and social skills.
In Autumn 2016 we recieved the Gold Award from Arnold in Bloom for our fruit, vegetables and flowers that we grow in school.
In Autumn 2017 we were once again very lucky to be honoured with the Arnold in Bloom Gold Award for the fantastic fruit and vegetables we grow in school.
